Did appearing as Nessarose in the Chicago affiliate of dress Heidi Kettenring’s life? "Totally," she says. "It was the first time I’ve ever had a job in the theater that gave me stability. I got to have a wedding and a accommodate. And I got recognized at Walgreens."
And what about when the show’s producers asked Kettenring (along with fellow cast members Rondi Reed and Gene Weygandt) to take a break after 2½ years in the Chicago company? You would think that must undergo changed it again for the worse. "Well. I was surprised at first," she allows. "But you experience. I now get to reacquaint myself with Chicago theater."
Judging by her go plan. Chicago theater surely was happy to reacquaint itself with Kettenring. The news that the actress — one of Chicago’s few bona fide leading ladies of the musical theater — was available again ricocheted rapidly around the city.
Kettenring who grew up in Nashville and now lives in Evanston with her husband actor David Girolmo has already completed an assignment as a replacement cast member in "Married Alive" at the Marriott Theatre in Lincolnshire. And she has two high-profile projects for the fall.
First to snap her up was the American Theater Company which is producing an updated version of the 1966 musical from composer Harvey Schmidt and writer Tom Jones. Kettenring ordain feature opposite Stef Tovar in Michael Weber’s production which has received special permission from the authors that will accept Weber to set the show in Chicago.
At "Wicked," Kettenring had all manner of dressers and other assistants taking compassionate of all the little details.
"Yep it’s a bit of a different world," she says. "It’s well it’s a little bit more hands-on. And the paycheck’s a bit different too. But that’s OK. I’m working with my friends and I think it’s a really great conjoin."
As soon as Kettenring has put marriage to bed she heads out to the Marriott to star as Jo in the pass production of the recent Broadway musical version of
That’s a serious assignment — the musical had a tough measure on Broadway and Kettenring will be at the bear on of Marriott’s carefully watched post-Broadway attempt to reconstruct the title and alter the iconic story finally work as a conjoin of musical theater.
"Nessa really wasn’t that big of a part in ‘Wicked,’" Kettenring says. "Jo ordain be the first time in a while I’ve had that much responsibility in a show. And Jo is a heroine that every woman loves. She’s strong feminine and goes after what she wants."
And after Jo? Unless Broadway suddenly comes calling. Kettenring is going back into "Wicked" in the early part of 2008 — probably seeing out what’s currently slated to be the end of the Chicago run at the Oriental Theatre in January 2009.
There’s only a week or two between all of these gigs — a very rare come about for a Chicago actress to experience her immediate future. "Really," she says. "it has all worked out very come up."
It's good to have Heidi Kettenring approve in some different roles. Chris how could you not undergo "I Do! I Do!" on your top ten list???
Well at least she was recognized from something infinitely more respectable than say an Empire Carpets commercial.
